Friendship plays a surprisingly small, though valued, role in the sweep of God's purpose through the scriptures. If any men were friends of another man, it must be these three. Job had many others who must have declared themselves to be a friend, but these demonstrated their friendship in companonship. Yet, despite their sincerity, their efforts to bring comfort greatly increased Job’s suffering. Something about friendship is not entirely reliable.
